Call #12: Email Marketing
My last session with Scott ended this morning. It was actually a pretty short call and ended with about 30 minutes left. I guess he doesn't have much else to teach me anymore! J/K...
On our last call, we talked about email marketing. Of course, I would need to build my subscriber base first.
Once my list is large enough where I can broadcast emails to them, there are a variety of things I can test. Just like with our salescopy, we want to test everything. For email, we'd like a sample size of approximately 1000.
Here are the list of possible things I can test:
- Subject Line
- Landing Pages
- Price Point
- Copy of Email
- Email Format (Text or HTML)
- Email Content
A few final pointers about email marketing - use the email to drive traffic to your site (not trying to sell the product), personalize your email (with at least a first name, preferably more), use your own name in the email (not a company or corporation), treat your list differently (special offers to just your customers) and always, always stay on top of unsubscribe requests.
One last thing - a new SPAM law now requires that you include a physical mailing address to each and every one of your outgoing emails. Be sure to put that at the bottom of your email, or you can get in trouble!
